by Pastor Olaf Brandt. She started school in Waukon. The family moved to a farm in Pleasant Twp. and Dianne attended Decorah schools, graduating from Decorah High School in 1978. She was a cheerleader and a member of Deca Club. As part of Deca, during her Senior year she worked at the Ben Franklin Store. In 1979 she began working at Rockwell-Collins in Freeport and is still employed there.

Mark and Dianne have 2 sons, Shannon Lee and Darrin John. Both were born at the Decorah Hospital and both were baptized at Decorah Lutheran. Shannon was born . He was baptized 8 Sep 1985 by Pastor Alden Hovda. His sponsors were Robert and Dorothy Snitker and Dennis and Cheryl Cline. Darrin was born He was baptized 11 Feb 1990 by Pastor James Glesne. His sponsors were Edward and Debra Espe and Roy and Debra Prestsater. Shannon and Darrin attend the Decorah schools. Shannon takes piano lessons.

Mark was a stock car driver a few years ago and still maintains his interest in that sport. The family attends Decorah Lutheran Church. The Cline family live in a new home on Clay Hill, rural Decorah.

Cline, Robert and Vernetta (Bolson)

Vernetta Helen Bolson was born to Lawrence Carlyle and Violet Minnie Bertha (Young) Bolson at her parents’ poultry farm on Locust Rd. Vernetta was baptized 22 Jul 1928 at Decorah Lutheran by Pastor Ole Glesne. She was confirmed at Decorah Lutheran by Pastor Oliver G. Fjelstad 25 Oct. 1942. Vernetta attended the Decorah schools and graduated from Decorah High School in 1946. She played cornet in the concert and marching bands. She was active in the church. After high school she worked as a nurses aid at the Decorah Hospital about one year. She then enrolled at Allen Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Waterloo, IA. After completing the first courses of study at Allen Memorial she went to Cook Co. Hospital in Chicago for 6 months and then returned to Allen Memorial for another year and graduated 7 Sep 1950. Vernetta passed the Iowa Nursing Board exams the following week. She worked as a nurse at the Decorah Hospital and later at the Decorah Retirement Center.

Vernetta was married to Robert Tiffany Cline of rural West Union 23 Sep 1950 at Decorah Lutheran by Pastor M. A. Egge. Robert was born at Canton, MN to Harry and Pauline Cline. He was baptized at home in Canton. He lived at Canton until he was 8 when the family moved to a farm about 3 miles east of West Union. Robert attended the Canton public schools, then the Stoney Hill rural school near West Union and graduated from West Union High School in 1941. He participated in football and mixed chorus. He was a member of the Methodist Church in West Union. The Clines have been known for their Jersey cattle and Robert as an 11 or 12 year old 4-H member began exhibiting at the county fair. He was one of the original members of the FFA Chapter that was established at the West Union High School. At the time of his marriage he was employed at Hausladen Auto Supply in Decorah and had an apartment on Decorah Avenue.

After their marriage Robert and Vernetta moved to the 90 acre farm on Clay Hill, about 3 miles northeast of Decorah, where Vernetta’s parents farmed for 4 years before they moved to Decorah. Robert and Vernetta have 5 children: Debra, Dennis, Mark, Gary and Julie. All the Cline children were active in school, 4-H and Sunday School. They all exhibited cattle at the county fair. All are graduates of Decorah High School. Robert was 4-H leader for 25 years and served on the Board of Pine-Bluff 4-H Camp. At one time he was director of the Clay Hill School.
